Today on breakfast (a news show at no other than breakfast time in the uk) a great topic about online scams kicked off..

The main focus of the article was regarding dating websites… One guy was show on TV who had forked out £12,000 (about $24,000) for a “lady” from a dating site… Now this guy was as dumb as you get to hand over £1 but hey, loads of dumb people out and about (me included durrrrrr)…

An international initiative by SOCA targeting mass marketing scams says £8 million worth of fake cheques have been seized, mainly from operations out of Nigeria. They also uncovered scams connected to online dating sites.

Basicaly men would pretend to be women (still don’t know why men need to do this) and ask for money… The money would be need to fly said woman to said dumb man in the UK.. All info over emails etc…  hmmm..

Anyway said man will not be doing it again BUT in the interview he was all over the dating site(s) again..

I got the latest copy of SMS fall 2007 and once a again enjoyed the read..

Its was a great read regarding the internation side of search as i’m in the uk and “play” with a few european search engines..

The UK with its 79% google search share is something I agree with you a stats point of view.. Great info to remind clients too…

The toolkit page was a good reminder of how you should check your own bookmarks once in a while LOL..

Some massive speed issues with good in the uk..

Its only 8am GMT so most people still in bed but trying to login into to google is taking about 30 seconds..

Gmail, adsense and even just doing a search is painful..

I know this well not take long to fix but its pretty crazy how slow thing are right not..

You may suggest its just me but every other site is loading fast in both IE FF so some DC might be down over here..

Come on and reset that switch so I can do a little work!

update:

I’ve asked a load of people in the UK if google was slow and got the same answer.. Over the last 24hrs people in the UK have had quote “awful” connection speed’s with google..

Its seems to be fine now a few hr’s later… At least I can do some work now..

OK.. This isn’t really going to work for many people but today I added a new way to combat SPAM submissions to one of my directories…

Almost all of my sites are for the UK only… Non UK traffic only really cost me $$ and makes me nothing… Anyway I have a UK directory for the uk.. Simple so no non UK sites are allowed…

Of course many so called SEO’s or spammer can’t F**king read the conditions for a submission…

So… I’ve added the following..

Well now with a pda i’m able to see sites mad for phones. Just yesterday    I was reading about a new book on websites design for mobile which is on my reading list, its not yet out but a blog/site by “Cameron” has much of the content of the book already… http://mobilewebbook.com/

The book focuses will be on design but design imho works hand in hand with seo..

So why could facebook be a racist…

At the start of August 2007 a load of massive advertisers in the UK pulled out of using facebook to promote their products..

2 of the big players in the uk that end advertising are Vodafone and Virgin…

So why? Whats this all about ?

Well over in the UK we have a “group” / “party” called the BNP (Britsh national party) 

The BPN is a very “Right-wing group”

“Our public policy principles state that we do not make political donations or support particular party political interests and therefore to avoid misunderstandings we immediately withdrew our advertising as soon as this was brought to our attention.”
